About Eleanor Castellan

Eleanor Castellan is a Professor in the Department of Sustainability Studies at International University Canada, where she teaches and mentors students across the School of Agriculture & Environment. Her academic work focuses on sustainability policy and governance, examining how governments, international bodies, and organizations design and implement policies that guide responsible environmental and resource management at scale.

Throughout her academic career, Eleanor Castellan has developed a teaching approach that connects policy analysis with practical governance challenges, helping students understand how sustainability policy is shaped by political, economic, and social considerations across different governance levels, from local municipalities to international agreements. She encourages students to think critically about the policymaking process itself.

In her courses, Eleanor Castellan draws on international policy case studies, governance frameworks, and current research in environmental policy to help students understand both the political and technical dimensions of sustainability governance. Students explore topics such as environmental regulation, international sustainability agreements, policy implementation challenges, and the role of stakeholder engagement in shaping effective sustainability policy.

As a Professor within the Department of Sustainability Studies, Eleanor Castellan plays a leading role in shaping curriculum that prepares students for policy and leadership roles within government agencies, international organizations, and sustainability-focused enterprises. She works closely with colleagues across the School of Agriculture & Environment to ensure that coursework reflects current global sustainability governance challenges.

She designs coursework that combines policy theory with practical case-based analysis of real governance challenges.

Recognizing that many of her students are working professionals studying online, Eleanor Castellan structures her courses with accessible policy case studies, clear governance frameworks, and consistent opportunities for applied discussion. Her approach to online teaching emphasizes developing the kind of policy literacy and strategic thinking needed for leadership roles in sustainability governance.

Students who study under Eleanor Castellan often highlight her ability to make complex sustainability policy accessible and directly relevant to real governance decision-making.
