About Donald Whitfield

Donald Whitfield is an Assistant Professor in the Department of AgriTech at International University Canada, where he teaches and supports students across the School of Agriculture & Environment. His academic work focuses on precision agriculture technology, examining how sensors, data analytics, and automated systems are used to optimize farming decisions and improve agricultural productivity.

Throughout his early academic career, Donald Whitfield has built a teaching approach grounded in practical technology application, helping students understand how data collected from fields, equipment, and weather systems can be translated into actionable farming decisions. He encourages students to see agricultural technology as a tool for solving real production challenges rather than technology for its own sake.

In his courses, Donald Whitfield draws on precision agriculture case studies, technology adoption frameworks, and current research in agricultural data science to help students build practical, employable skills. Students explore topics such as remote sensing in agriculture, farm data management systems, automated irrigation and equipment technology, and the economic considerations involved in adopting new agricultural technology.

As an Assistant Professor within the Department of AgriTech, Donald Whitfield also supports curriculum development that reflects rapidly evolving agricultural technology and data tools. He works closely with senior faculty across the School of Agriculture & Environment to ensure that coursework prepares students for technology adoption challenges faced by farms of different sizes and resource levels.

Donald Whitfield is especially attentive to helping students understand that agricultural technology must be appropriate to local farming contexts, recognizing that high-tech solutions designed for large commercial operations may not be practical or accessible for smaller farms. He designs coursework that encourages students to evaluate technology solutions based on real-world feasibility.

Recognizing that many of his students are working professionals studying online, Donald Whitfield structures his courses with accessible technology case studies, clear data analysis frameworks, and consistent opportunities for applied discussion. His approach to online teaching emphasizes building practical AgriTech skills that students can apply directly within their own farming or agricultural technology contexts.

Students who study under Donald Whitfield often highlight his ability to make agricultural technology concepts practical and accessible regardless of students' prior technical background. His long-term goal as an educator is to help students develop the technical and analytical skills needed to support agricultural technology adoption and innovation careers.
