About Susan Garroway

Susan Garroway is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at International University Canada, where she teaches and mentors students across the School of Arts & Social Sciences. Her academic work focuses on developmental psychology, examining how cognitive, emotional, and social development unfolds across the human lifespan, from early childhood through adulthood and aging.

Throughout her academic career, Susan Garroway has developed a teaching approach grounded in longitudinal research understanding, helping students recognize how developmental psychologists study change over time and the methodological challenges involved in tracking human development across years or decades. She encourages students to appreciate both the insights and the limitations of developmental research methods.

In her courses, Susan Garroway draws on developmental research case studies, lifespan theory frameworks, and current research in developmental science to help students understand the breadth of human development across different life stages. Students explore topics such as early childhood cognitive development, adolescent identity formation, adult psychosocial development, and the developmental changes associated with aging.

As a Professor within the Department of Psychology, Susan Garroway plays a leading role in shaping curriculum that prepares students for careers and further study in developmental psychology, education, and related human services fields. She works closely with colleagues across the School of Arts & Social Sciences to ensure that coursework reflects current research across all stages of human development.

Susan Garroway is particularly committed to mentoring students who aspire to careers working with specific age groups, whether in early childhood education, adolescent counseling, or services for older adults, helping them understand the developmental science relevant to their chosen population. She designs coursework that connects developmental theory to practical applications across different professional contexts.

Recognizing that many of her students are working professionals studying online, Susan Garroway structures her courses with accessible research summaries, clear developmental frameworks, and consistent opportunities for applied discussion. Her approach to online teaching emphasizes building scientific literacy in human development that students can apply across education, counseling, and human services careers.

Students who study under Susan Garroway often highlight her ability to make developmental psychology feel relevant across many different career paths and life stages. Her long-term goal as an educator is to help students develop the scientific understanding needed to support careers in developmental psychology, education, and human services.
