About Marianne Foucault

Marianne Foucault is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at International University Canada, where she teaches and mentors students across the School of Arts & Social Sciences. Her academic work focuses on literary criticism and theory, examining how different theoretical frameworks shape the interpretation and analysis of literary texts across historical periods and cultural contexts.

Throughout her academic career, Marianne Foucault has developed a teaching approach that introduces students to major schools of literary theory while helping them apply these frameworks to close readings of specific texts. She encourages students to see literary theory not as abstract academic exercise but as a practical toolkit for generating deeper, more nuanced interpretations of literature.

In her courses, Marianne Foucault draws on literary criticism case studies, theoretical framework comparisons, and current scholarship in literary studies to help students build strong analytical skills. Students explore topics such as structuralist and post-structuralist approaches, feminist literary criticism, postcolonial literary theory, and the application of multiple theoretical lenses to the same literary text.

As an Associate Professor within the Department of English, Marianne Foucault also contributes to curriculum planning that introduces students to the breadth of literary theoretical traditions. She works closely with colleagues across the School of Arts & Social Sciences to ensure that coursework provides both historical context and practical application of literary theory.

Marianne Foucault places particular emphasis on helping students understand that literary theory reflects different ways of asking questions about texts and society, rather than simply providing a single correct interpretation. She designs coursework that encourages students to compare how different theoretical approaches illuminate different aspects of the same literary work.

Recognizing that many of her students are working professionals studying online, Marianne Foucault structures her courses with accessible theoretical explanations, clear analytical frameworks, and consistent opportunities for applied literary analysis. Her approach to online teaching emphasizes building strong critical thinking skills that students can apply to literature and beyond.

Students who study under Marianne Foucault often highlight her ability to make literary theory feel intellectually exciting rather than overly abstract. Her long-term goal as an educator is to help students develop the critical and analytical skills needed to support further study in literature, literary criticism, and the humanities.
