About Steven Pratchett

Steven Pratchett is an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health at International University Canada, where he teaches and mentors students across the School of Health Sciences. His academic work focuses on environmental health policy, examining how exposure to environmental hazards such as air pollution, contaminated water, and industrial chemicals affects population health and how policy responses address these risks.

Throughout his academic career, Steven Pratchett has developed a teaching approach that connects environmental science with public health policy analysis, helping students understand both the scientific evidence linking environmental exposures to health outcomes and the policy mechanisms used to regulate and reduce those exposures. He encourages students to evaluate environmental health policy through both scientific and equity lenses.

In his courses, Steven Pratchett draws on environmental health case studies, exposure assessment frameworks, and current research in environmental epidemiology to help students understand the policy dimensions of environmental health protection. Students explore topics such as air and water quality regulation, occupational health exposure standards, environmental justice and health disparities, and the policy processes involved in addressing emerging environmental health risks.

As an Associate Professor within the Department of Public Health, Steven Pratchett also contributes to curriculum planning that prepares students to address environmental health challenges through policy and advocacy work. He works closely with colleagues across the School of Health Sciences to ensure that coursework reflects current environmental health research and regulatory developments.

Steven Pratchett places particular emphasis on helping students understand environmental health through an equity lens, recognizing that environmental health risks and exposures are often distributed unevenly across different communities based on socioeconomic and geographic factors. He designs coursework that consistently incorporates environmental justice considerations into policy analysis.

Recognizing that many of his students are working professionals studying online, Steven Pratchett structures his courses with accessible policy case studies, clear scientific frameworks, and consistent opportunities for applied discussion. His approach to online teaching emphasizes building practical policy analysis skills that students can apply within environmental health advocacy and regulatory contexts.

Students who study under Steven Pratchett often highlight his ability to connect environmental science with genuinely equity-focused policy analysis. His long-term goal as an educator is to help students develop the scientific and policy skills needed to support careers in environmental health, public health policy, and health equity advocacy.
