About Geoffrey Ashcombe

Geoffrey Ashcombe is a Professor in the Department of International Law at International University Canada, where he teaches and mentors students across the School of Law. His academic work focuses on international dispute resolution, examining how disputes between states, and between states and other parties, are resolved through international courts, arbitration tribunals, and other formal dispute resolution mechanisms.

Throughout his academic career, Geoffrey Ashcombe has developed a teaching approach that connects procedural understanding of international tribunals with substantive analysis of how international disputes are argued and decided. He encourages students to study international dispute resolution as both a legal and diplomatic process, recognizing that resolving disputes between sovereign states often requires careful attention to political as well as legal considerations.

In his courses, Geoffrey Ashcombe draws on landmark international tribunal case studies, arbitration procedure frameworks, and current research in international judicial institutions to help students understand the practical and theoretical dimensions of international dispute resolution. Students explore topics such as the jurisdiction and procedure of major international courts, international arbitration practice, the enforcement of international judicial decisions, and the challenges facing international dispute resolution institutions.

As a Professor within the Department of International Law, Geoffrey Ashcombe plays a leading role in shaping curriculum that prepares students for careers in international litigation, arbitration, and diplomatic legal practice. He works closely with colleagues across the School of Law to ensure that coursework reflects current developments in international judicial institutions and dispute resolution practice.

Geoffrey Ashcombe is particularly committed to mentoring students who aspire to careers in international dispute resolution, helping them develop the legal analysis and advocacy skills required to represent parties before international courts and tribunals. He designs coursework that combines procedural knowledge with practical case-based analysis of major international disputes.

Recognizing that many of his students are working professionals studying online, Geoffrey Ashcombe structures his courses with accessible case studies, clear procedural frameworks, and consistent opportunities for applied discussion. His approach to online teaching emphasizes developing the kind of legal and diplomatic judgment needed for careers in international dispute resolution.

Students who study under Geoffrey Ashcombe often highlight his ability to connect international law theory with genuine understanding of how disputes are actually resolved between nations. His long-term goal as an educator is to help students develop the legal expertise and advocacy capability needed to advance into careers in international dispute resolution, arbitration, and diplomatic legal practice.
