About Stephanie Nakamura

Stephanie Nakamura is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Data Science at International University Canada, where she teaches and supports students across the School of Engineering & Technology. Her academic work focuses on statistical data analysis, examining how statistical methods are applied to extract meaningful insights from data sets across business, scientific, and social contexts.

Throughout her early academic career, Stephanie Nakamura has built a teaching approach grounded in solid statistical fundamentals, helping students understand the assumptions and appropriate applications of common statistical methods before moving into more advanced data science techniques. She encourages students to understand the "why" behind statistical methods, not just how to run them in software.

In her courses, Stephanie Nakamura draws on data analysis case studies, statistical methodology frameworks, and current research in applied statistics to help students build foundational analytical skills. Students explore topics such as descriptive and inferential statistics, hypothesis testing, regression analysis fundamentals, and the common pitfalls and misinterpretations that occur in statistical data analysis.

As an Assistant Professor within the Department of Data Science, Stephanie Nakamura also supports curriculum development that builds a strong statistical foundation before students progress to more advanced data science coursework. She works closely with senior faculty across the School of Engineering & Technology to ensure that coursework provides the analytical grounding needed for further data science study.

Stephanie Nakamura is especially attentive to helping students recognize statistical misuse and misinterpretation, recognizing that data-driven decisions are only as good as the statistical reasoning behind them. She designs coursework that includes critical evaluation of statistical claims alongside hands-on analysis practice.

Recognizing that many of her students are working professionals studying online, Stephanie Nakamura structures her courses with accessible statistical explanations, clear analytical frameworks, and consistent opportunities for applied practice. Her approach to online teaching emphasizes building practical statistical skills that students can apply directly within data-driven roles.

Students who study under Stephanie Nakamura often highlight her ability to make statistics feel approachable and genuinely useful rather than abstract. Her long-term goal as an educator is to help students develop the statistical foundation needed to support careers in data science, data analytics, and data-driven decision-making.
